Description
A contemporary take on the traditional Irish potato baskets.
The traditional Irish potato basket was made to strain and serve potatoes. The basket was carried outside, the cooked potatoes were strained through it, then brought inside and put on the cooking pot, a stump of wood or even on the floor. The family would sit around the basket to eat. This meant that the skib effectively was the table and that is why they frequently were so large. Once finished the basket was rinsed and hung on the outside wall to dry.
Today these are a stunning contemporary wall piece.
Each basket is hand made from willow grown and harvested ourselves. Different colours are all natural and come from different willow varieties. They are grown for their bark colours and flexibility.
