Oval tray

This project is an oval tray with 2 small handles. Ideal to serve food. I selected this tray as our first oval basket so you can really practice oval bases, because it is mostly a base, with only small sides. An oval base can have a tendency to warp. To counteract that we will doing ordinary pairing with one set of weavers and reverse pairing with the other set of weavers. You could also do ordinary pairing for a few rounds and then switch over to reverse pairing for a few rounds to balance things out again.

Willow you will need:

5ft x 15 rods (or sturdy 4ft rods. these are for the base sticks)

4ft x 36 uprights

4ft x 24 base weavers

4ft x 26 side weaving

4ft x 2 for little handles.

My favourite go-to border for all baskets is the 5 behind 2 rod border.

Below you will find the video where I explain how to weave this border. This video comes from my course on round work but is equally applicable to oval work.

Afterwards add two small handles. You can do a single rod handle, as in the video below.
