I have been a full time basket maker for about 10 years but I have never had my own work space. I have worked from the kitchen table, from the willow shed and a corner of the tunnel and moved between all of those over the years depending on the weather, space and other considerations.
We always had other more pressing projects to work on but this year was different. We both had a little bit more time at the start of the year and I also realized that having my own space would greatly improve the business, my work and life in general. So we set to it!
In this video you can see us build the studio from scratch. We dug away the hillside to make a larger flat area, dragged up trees, build the structure, the living green roof, put in the outside wall cladding, put in windows and flooring.
